Due to Tropical Cyclone Narelle, service disruptions continue to impact parts of Western Australia.

The affected corridor spans Port Hedland through to Geraldton, including key locations such as Karratha, Carnarvon and surrounding areas.

Road access both north and south of Carnarvon remains closed. As a result, freight to Coral Bay, Exmouth, Shark Bay and Denham is currently on hold until access is restored.

This is impacting deliveries, collections and linehaul movements across the region.

Our teams are working to move freight where conditions allow and will resume normal operations as soon as it is safe to do so.

We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Service Update – Darwin Freight Delays & Temporary Suspension

We are writing to provide an update on freight and transport services in line with current road conditions impacting our Northern Territory corridor.

Our Tuesday Darwin Express service, which departed Perth as scheduled on Tuesday, 17 March, is currently delayed en-route due to the closure of both the King River Bridge and sections of the Victoria Highway. As a result, the vehicle is unable to proceed further north at this time.

We remain in regular contact with NT Roads; however, there is currently no confirmed timeframe for when access will be restored for heavy vehicles. While a special access permit was granted to move through the affected areas last night, further rain fall overnight in the catchment has resulted in the road being closed to all traffic, and the permit has since been revoked until further notice.

Please be assured that we are actively pursuing all available avenues to progress this service and will move as soon as conditions and approvals allow.

With respect to upcoming services, we have been advised that all other access roads into Darwin are expected to be cut off from this weekend. Based on this information, a decision has been made to temporarily suspend the Darwin service ex Perth scheduled for Friday, 20 March.

We will continue to closely monitor road and weather conditions in consultation with NT Roads and will reassess services as soon as it is safe and operationally viable to do so.

We are currently reviewing a number of potential service options for early next week to assist with clearing any backlog; however, these remain indicative pending road access, weather conditions, and regulatory approvals.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. Should you have any urgent freight requirements or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact our team and we will do our best to assist where possible.

Service update: Katherine Depot, Interstate Services and North Queensland

Please be advised of the following service updates across Katherine, interstate services and North Queensland.

Katherine Depot

Following the easing of recent flooding in the Katherine region, Northline’s Katherine depot has reopened and is fully operational. Pick-ups and deliveries in the area are proceeding as normal. Noting that some local businesses remain closed.

We are also closely monitoring Tropical Cyclone Narelle, which is intensifying as it tracks across Far North Queensland and may move into the Northern Territory.

Interstate Services

Northline continues to process freight and reposition containers and road units as we work through the backlog caused by recent rail network disruptions.

We appreciate your patience as services gradually return to normal operating levels. Until then, we expect extended transit days to occur.

North Queensland

There are planned rail outages due to track maintenance in and out of North Queensland this week, which have limited rail options. Northline’s services in this area remain largely unaffected, with additional road units in place to maintain service continuity.

Rail Network & Flooding - Broken Hill Rail Line, Queensland & Northern Territory

Please be advised – major flooding continues to impact freight operations across Broken Hill, South Australia, the Northern Territory, and as of recent: Southeast Queensland, with ongoing service disruptions reported by our carriers.

In South Australia, connected through Broken Hill, flooding continues to affect rail infrastructure. The Melbourne to Perth rail corridor reopened on 5 March (ARTC); however, the Sydney to Perth rail line remains closed, with reopening not expected before 27 March. Parcels are being redirected via Melbourne, and consignments originating from Sydney may experience delays of approximately two days.

In the Northern Territory, severe flooding across the Kimberley region has closed several key freight routes. No reopening timeframe has been advised. All services to and from Darwin remain suspended due to flooding in the Katherine region, with local depots closed for staff safety and reopening only once conditions allow. Pick-ups and deliveries within the Katherine area are postponed, with many roads not expected to reopen until early next week, subject to weather conditions.

In Southeast Queensland, severe weather and flooding are affecting transport routes, with delays expected across Gympie, Kingaroy, the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, and the Rockhampton and Emerald regions. Please anticipate delays of up to three business days, subject to weather conditions.

Severe weather and flooding are currently impacting freight operations across parts of Queensland. Localised flooding may affect services in Wide Bay, Maryborough, the Sunshine Coast and Gladstone, as well as some rural areas across Western Queensland.

The Bruce Highway is currently open, allowing freight movements to Far North Queensland to continue. However, conditions remain dynamic due to flooding, and delays may still be experienced in Cairns, Mackay and Townsville.
