Virgin Australia Cargo shipping and tracking

Virgin Australia Cargo moves freight through the Virgin Australia domestic network, using specialist cargo terminals at all major Australian airports. It carries single pieces up to 60 kilograms airport to airport, so it is an air service for urgent freight rather than a general freight network. FreightExchange gives your team one screen to quote, book and track it, alongside every other carrier on your account.

Ship Virgin Australia Cargo from your ERP or online store.

Most urgent consignments start life as an order that already exists in another system. FreightExchange connects to your ERP, CRM or online store and builds the consignment from that order, so the rate, the label and the manifest happen in one step instead of three. The same connection covers the rest of your carriers, so nothing gets keyed twice. See the plugins and integrations we support.

Use your own Virgin account, or ours.

There are two ways to ship Virgin Australia Cargo through FreightExchange. Bring your own account, which needs a FreightExchange subscription and keeps the rates you have already negotiated with the carrier. Or book on our broker rates, which is worth doing when they beat what you are paying now. Booking, labels and tracking work the same either way.

FreightExchange Integration

When to use Virgin Australia Cargo

Use Virgin Australia Cargo when one piece has to cross the country today and road freight will not get there in time. It is part of the Virgin Australia Group and works out of cargo terminals at all major Australian airports.

Three services are named. Same day carries general cargo, urgent medical supplies and permitted dangerous goods on a flight you choose. Perishable transport covers fruit, vegetables, flowers, plants, seafood and fresh meat. Pet and animal travel is handled separately. Full detail sits on the Virgin Australia Cargo pages.

Weight limits to check first

The ceiling decides most of it. Same day and perishable freight are limited to 60 kilograms a piece, and animal transport to 65 kilograms including the container and its attachments.

Capacity also depends on the aircraft flying the route. Virgin Australia publishes typical cargo capacity of 700 kilograms on a Fokker 100, 900 kilograms on an Embraer 190 or Fokker 70, and about 2,000 kilograms on a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320.

If your freight moves as pallets, pick a road carrier from the carrier panel instead. Virgin Australia does not accept bookings for international services.

Frequently asked questions

Will the warehouse staff use a separate system provided by Virgin Cargo or FreightExchange?

The default Virgin Cargo integration lets anyone in your business get quotes, make bookings and track shipments inside FreightExchange, for Virgin Cargo and for the other carriers on your account.

How is shipping documentation created and managed?

Shipping documentation like labels and manifests can all be generated through FreightExchange instantly upon creating a booking. All documents from Virgin Cargo can then be emailed or pushed to your system via easy and free integrations.

How do bespoke business rules work with Virgin Cargo?

FreightExchange has a business rules engine that lets you decide which carrier and service to use in different shipping scenarios. You can also bypass those rules and send a consignment to Virgin Australia Cargo directly.

Can FreightExchange be configured to cater our bespoke use case?

One of our differentiators is our modern and open, RESTful API. Using the latest and greatest technology while also being constructed in a framework using REST allows FreightExchange to be a flexible and extensible tool that is highly configurable for Virgin Cargo or any other courier that can talk to web services.
